Maya Kulkarni Dance Company under the banner of CCMAE is a platform to showcase Shilpanatanam, a new vocabulary of dance choreography. Created by Maya Kulkarni, Shilpanatanam has expanded Indian classical dance in thematic and expressive content and forever altered the scope of the art by rooting works in poetry, and literary narratives across cultures. CCMAE’s mission is to open the traditional mode of dance by exploring global literary works, it is also to mentor younger dancers to carry CCMAE’s mission forward. Maya Dance Company currently mentors six dancers trained in the Indian classical mode. The company is actively working to create new platforms for Shilpanatanam and multiple points of access for international audiences. Maya Dance Company’s 2022-23 repertory included new works such as Yakshini, Rati Vilaap, Jatayu, Durga, Shadjam, and Vidyapati’s poetry.
